There’s a New Way in MMA!
MMA Event to Showcase Pro and Amateur Local Fighters
Coliseum Combat Zone will hold its inaugural mixed martial arts (MMA) event on September 14, 2024, from 6 to 10 p.m., at the All American Field House in Monroeville, Pa. The event will showcase a star-studded lineup of battle-hardened professionals and ascending local amateurs who will square off in one of the area’s most intimate sporting venues. This is the largest MMA event held in Pittsburgh since 2017.
One of the world’s fastest-growing sports, MMA is a full-contact sport where fighters use combat techniques such as striking, finishing holds and control to achieve dominance over their opponents.
This event will be kicking off a slate of MMA fights that will give local fans an up-close-and-personal view of one of the world’s fastest-growing sports,” said Allen Levine, CEO and founder of Coliseum Combat Zone, a Pittsburgh-based sports organization that is promoting this event. “We are promising an exhilarating experience where fans will be so close to the action that they can almost feel the energy of the punches and kicks.”
The goal is to have 14 matches with 4 pro and 10 amateurs. Five strong matches are already scheduled: Cheynne Hall vs. Krissa Timbs, Elijah Davis vs. Zachary Westlund, Tobiaus Taylor vs. John De Jesus, Faith Nichols vs. Tatiana Santos, Bryan Hess vs. Isaiah Smith with more to come. The plan is also to have 3 women bouts total.
Allen’s decade of sports broadcasting, hosting Pittsburgh Sportsline every Tuesday evening on Bethel Park Public Access TV, is thrilled he can bring this event to Pittsburgh. His drive to make this happen for the local fighters to give them the opportunity to perform in a professionally staged venue is something that he has been passionate about for a long time.
All fights will take place in a regulation-sized MMA cage that will be spotlighted by
state-of-the-art lights, colored lasers, and jumbo screens with a high energy concert atmosphere. Smokin’ Jim Frazier, a local football legend and co-host on Pittsburgh Sportsline, will serve as the ring announcer. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Fights start at 7 p.m. and there will be a 20-minute intermission at the halfway point of the event. Levine will have 30 second interviews with all of the fighters, and they will be posted before each of their fights on 2 large screens at the corners of the venue!
Coliseum Combat Zone, which is certified by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, was organized to help promote local fighters from the greater Pittsburgh area.
“We want to give local MMA fighters the respect they deserve,” said Levine, “We want to help fighters get more recognition, improve their fighting conditions and highlight their performance. We want to make it enjoyable for them as well as the audience! This is a unique approach to MMA matches that has not been done in the past locally.”
“Fighters who will participate in this event train at some of the top gyms in the area, including Mat Factory, Stout Fight Promotions, Wright’s Gym and other local gyms. Levine plans to build on this excitement by hosting two MMA events in 2025. In the past fighters have not been the respect they deserve for similar events. We are committed to changing this for the fighters.
